She’s in the water – Vanes new tug "Tangier Island"

The New Vane Brothers tug Tangier Island (A Sassafras class) was launched today in Salisbury, MD complimented with a complete set of JonRie Deck Equipment. The Tangier Island eight in a series of 10 tugs and will support the company’s inland, brown water and coastal towing operations. The vessel features JonRie’s state-of-the-art Series 500 Towing Winch with its independent drive level wind. The Winch boasts a line pull of 45 Tons., 20M/m and the capacity to spool 650M of 45mm cable. On the after Deck the tugs also come complete with a JonRie Series 421 Hydraulic Capstan. The winch is completely controlled from the Tow Coop on the boat deck and features Pilot House alarms. The drive in the engine room is powered by a 125Kw diesel Engine and features a 25Kw backup system. All Controls were designed and supplied by JonRie.

The Tangier Island’ will join the ‘Sassafras class’, the first tug that Chesapeake built for Vane Brothers, in hauling 30,000-barrel tank barges on near coastal routes. Construction is already underway on the remaining two tugs, each of which will be delivered over the next year and a half.

‘Tangier Island’ produces 2,235kW with twin Caterpillar 3512 main engines through 6:1 reverse reduction gears to conventional shafts. It has accommodations for seven crew members.
