Senate panel votes to ease Cuban shipping rules

(WASHINGTON) — The Senate Appropriations Committee approved amendments Thursday to ease some trade barriers with Cuba, including lifting restrictions on ships that call on Cuban ports, Reuters reported. The measures would also end restrictions on travel by Americans to the communist island. The U.S. and Cuba announced on Dec. 17 that they would move toward normal relations for the first time in half a century.
