Sediment causes barge groundings in Upper Mississippi River

(ST. LOUIS) — Sediment in the Upper Mississippi River is causing barges to run aground, Reuters reported. The same boat with a string of 15 barges ran aground twice in the St. Louis area this week. The Coast Guard closed the section of the river, delaying at least eight vessels, and the Army Corps of Engineers plans to hasten a dredging project this weekend.
