Seamen’s Church moving to NJ, leaving NYC after 176 years

(NEW YORK) — The Seamen’s Church Institute is moving out of New York City after 176 years, the New York Times reported. The mariners’ service organization is transferring to a new headquarters at New Jersey’s Port Newark. It had been on New York’s South Street since 1834, but just as so many shipping businesses have left Lower Manhattan recently, Seamen’s Church is moving closer to where the seafarers are in the harbor’s major port.
