Runaway barge corralled near Tappan Zee Bridge

(PIERMONT, N.Y.) — A barge being used in the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement project broke free and drifted for nearly a mile Sunday before it was secured, The Journal News reported. The town's fire chief said the barge was moving "at a pretty quick pace" and was a hazard to navigation. A spokesman for the U.S. Coast Guard said he didn't believe the barge was deliberately untethered.
