Robert Allan Ltd. awards memorial scholarship to British Columbia student

(VANCOUVER, British Columbia) — On Sept. 7, the Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship for 2018 was awarded to Samuel Kobierski, a fourth-year student of naval architecture at the University of British Columbia.

The award was presented by Robert G. Allan, executive chairman, and Mike Fitzpatrick, president and CEO of Robert Allan Ltd. The presentation was made on the 102nd anniversary of the birth of Robert F. Allan. in whose memory this scholarship was created.

Kobierski is pursuing a career in naval architecture after initial training and working as an apprentice boilermaker with DND in Victoria. He then obtained trade qualifications as a welder and in metal fabrication from Camosun College and BCIT respectively, skills which will be valuable in his future design career. He subsequently obtained an advanced diploma in mechanical engineering technology from Camosun College before enrolling in UBC.

The Robert Allan Memorial Scholarship was created in 1981 and has been awarded every year since to deserving Canadian students of naval architecture or marine engineering. Information on the criteria for acceptance and for applications can be found on the Robert Allan Ltd. website:
