Richard Jacobsen, former head of Jacobsen Pilot Service, dies at 82

(LONG BEACH, Calif.) — Richard Jacob Jacobsen, whose family business guides about 7,000 ships through the Port of Long Beach each year, died at his home Friday due to complications from Parkinson’s disease, the Orange County Register reported. He was 82. Jacobsen Pilot Service, founded in 1924 by Jacobsen's father, set new safety standards in the ship piloting industry.
