(PORTLAND, Ore.) — The steam-powered tugboat Portland’s 2008 steering casualty on the Columbia River almost ended in a terrible disaster, The Oregonian newspaper reported. The vessel, with no power, was drifting quickly toward Bonneville Dam. The occupants were lucky that the Tidewater Barge Lines tugboat Invader responded so quickly and was able to guide the Portland to safety.
