(KINGS POINT, N.Y.) — The U.S. Department of Transportation has decided to close the Global Maritime and Transportation School at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Newsday reported. Several employees will be laid off when the program is shuttered for good in July 2012. The move leaves USMMA as the nation’s only maritime academy without a continuing education program.
