Report: Human error caused ship to hit USS Arizona Memorial dock

Mercy Memorial 600x400

(WASHINGTON) — A Military Sealift Command investigation has determined that a hospital ship struck the dock of the USS Arizona Memorial in May after the pilot and ship's captain lost track of where the ship was going as it was leaving Pearl Harbor, ABC News reported. The pilot on USNS Mercy had poor control over tugboats guiding the ship, the report said, resulting in the ship unexpectedly heading toward the memorial. Waves generated by Mercy pushed the floating dock about 12 feet toward the memorial, damaging the dock.
