Pirate attacks increased in 2007, Maritime Bureau says

Pirate attacks on shipping increased 10 percent in 2007, the New York Times reported. The International Maritime Bureau said a rise in pirate activity around Nigeria and Somalia caused the increase. Pirate attacks had been declining since 2003, but pirate syndicates are becoming more daring and sophisticated, and they have better weapons.
