Pentagon: Iranian forces board Maersk containership

(WASHINGTON) — The Pentagon said Iranian forces took control of the containership Maersk Tigris on Tuesday in the Persian Gulf after patrol boats fired warning shots across its bow and ordered it deeper into Iranian waters, The New York Times reported. A Pentagon official said no U.S. citizens were among the 34 crewmembers aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged vessel. U.S. planes and a destroyer were monitoring the situation after a distress call from Maersk Tigris in the Strait of Hormuz.
