Parasailing operators must pay attention to weather, towline

The U.S. Coast Guard has issued a Safety Alert as a result of numerous fatalities in the parasailing industry. A common occurrence is failure of the towline. The Safety Alert urges operators to monitor weather conditions and to properly maintain winches, towlines and other onboard equipment. It is important to have emergency response procedures in the event of towline, winch or propulsion failures. Here is a PDF of the Coast Guard’s alert, which urges operators to “Know Your Ropes”:
