Nova Star creditors forced to pay ship's expenses in Portland

(PORTLAND, Maine) — The Portland Pilots and other creditors have to cover some of the costs of keeping the Nova Star ferry in Portland while they negotiate with the company that owes them money, CBC News reported. A federal court ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to take possession of the ship on Oct. 30, shortly after the conclusion of a disappointing sailing season between Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Claims against the operator, Nova Star Cruises, have climbed to more than $2 million, according to a lawyer for the city of Portland.
