Nova Scotia chooses new ferry line for service to Maine

(HALIFAX, Nova Scotia) — The provincial government announced Thursday that it had chosen Bay Ferries to take over the Yarmouth-to-Maine run from Nova Star Ferries, which had operated the service for two years, The Boston Globe reported. The government will now negotiate with Bay Ferries, the preferred candidate out of four bidders, on terms of an operating agreement. The current ferry operator spent $165 million on a luxury ship, Nova Star, but ridership was below expectations and the company spent $21 million in subsidies in 2014 alone.
