New Orleans Terminal joins Green Marine

(NEW ORLEANS) — New Orleans Terminal (NOT) LLC has signed up as a participant in Green Marine, the leading voluntary environmental initiative for the continent’s maritime industry.

NOT is a container stevedore and terminal operator in the Port of New Orleans where it handles all containers at the Container Facility, the Container Freight Station, and the New Orleans Intermodal On-Dock-Rail Ramp. NOT is a joint venture between Ceres and Container Marine Terminals LLC. Both Ceres and the Port of New Orleans are active Green Marine participants.

NOT handles 165,000 containers yearly and operates the on-dock-rail terminal.

The Green Marine environmental program encourages its participants — shipowners, ports, terminals and shipyards — to undertake concrete actions that go beyond regulatory requirements to improve their environmental performance. Participants must demonstrate year-over-year improvement in measurable ways to maintain their certification.

Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American marine industry. It is a voluntary, inclusive and transparent initiative that addresses key environmental issues such as air emissions, GHG, spill prevention and community impacts through its 12 performance indicators. There are currently more than 100 companies from coast to coast in Canada and the United States participating in the program. Green Marine’s certification process is rigorous and transparent: results are independently verified every two years and each company’s individual results are published.
