Nation's first oceangoing electric vessel set for 2016 launch

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — The nation's first oceangoing electric-powered passenger vessel is set to launch next summer in Juneau, The Arctic Sounder reported. The 50-foot Tongass Rain will rely on a bank of lithium batteries for power. The catamaran was designed Tongass Rain Electric Cruise of Juneau and Jutson Marine of Vancouver, British Columbia, and will be built at Armstrong Marine in Port Angeles, Wash.
