More funding for Olmsted Project: Pork or problem solver?

(OLMSTED, Ill.) — Seen by some as a sweetheart deal for Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., the U.S. budget agreement allowing the Olmsted Locks and Dam Project to continue is viewed by others as crucial to commerce on the Ohio River, Bloomberg News reported. Among those in favor of the deal is American Electric Power Co., which wants the project to be completed to reduce tow and barge delays on the river. The Senate Conservatives Fund, a group opposing McConnell’s re-election in 2014, criticized the senator and called the authorization  “parochial pork.”
