Moran Iron Works launches two oceangoing barges

The following is the text of a news release from Moran Iron Works Inc.:

(ONAWAY, Mich.) — Moran Iron Works launched two oceangoing barges this week for Durocher Marine, a division of Kokosing Construction Inc., based in Cheboygan, Mich.

The two deck barges are each 180-by-54-by-12 feet and built in accordance with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and United States Coast Guard (USCG) regulations and classifications. They are classed as ABS ✠ A1 ocean service deck barges and have an international load line certificate.

Bill Hartig, senior project manager for MIW, estimates that approximately 35,000 hours of project management, shop time, and field work went into the project.

“This is a monumental week for Moran Iron Works,” stated Tom Moran, CEO and founder of Moran Iron Works. “Our team did an incredible job from start to finish. I couldn’t be prouder.”

Kokosing IV launched on April 20 and Kokosing III successfully launched April 21 at the deepwater port at Calcite in Rogers City, Mich., through the company’s Port Calcite Collaborative.
