Mobile River closed after fuel oil spills during transfer from barge

(MOBILE, Ala.) — The Mobile River is closed to commercial traffic after oil spilled at an asphalt terminal, the Mobile Press-Register newspaper reported. As much as 270,000 gallons of heavy fuel oil spilled after a Gulf Coast Asphalt crew overfilled a storage tank while transferring a load from a barge. Some large ships have been delayed by the closure and Coast Guard spill response.
