Mel Oliver captain now wants to testify, possibly delaying probe

(NEW ORLEANS) — The captain of the towing vessel Mel Oliver now wants to testify in the Coast Guard investigation of a major oil spill on the Mississippi River, the Times-Picayune newspaper of New Orleans reported. The captain, who was absent at the time of the collision with a larger vessel, had invoked the Fifth Amendment earlier. His desire to testify may delay the release of the Coast Guard’s report on the casualty.
