(PORTLAND, Maine) — The Maine Port Authority and McAllister Towing have designed an articulated-tug barge to transport containers between Portland and New York City, the Portland Press Herald reported. Officials hope the federal government will support the project as a way to get trucks off the Northeast’s congested highways — and revive a coastal domestic shipping system that disappeared more than a half-century ago.
