Mariners: Proposed Va. bridge has inadequate air draft for vessels

(NORFOLK, Va.) — The state’s proposals for a new Jordan Bridge is inadequate for vessel traffic, according to the Virginia Maritime Association, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported. As designed, the new bridge would have the “same navigational restrictions” as the old bridge. The mariners say new bridge must be built with greater air draft and width to accommodate ship and barge traffic.
