Threat type: Potential retaliatory strikes by Iranian forces
Geographic area: Strait of Hormuz, Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and Arabian Sea
(WASHINGTON) — At approximately 0100 UTC on June 13, Israel commenced military strikes against targets in Iran. Due to the now heightened tensions in this region, U.S.-flagged commercial vessels operating throughout this region are strongly encouraged to maintain close contact with U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) Naval Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) and review the latest Joint Maritime Information Center Advisories here.
The risk mitigation measures addressed in U.S. Maritime Advisory 2025-002 (Iranian Illegal Boarding/Detention/Seizure – Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman) should also be reviewed and implemented well in advance of entering this region. Further updates will be provided when available.
