(PORTLAND, Maine) — The Nova Star ferry, which had been held in Portland for more than a month due to money owed to creditors, sailed for the Bahamas on Wednesday after being released by a judge, the Portland Press Herald reported. The ferry, operated by Nova Star Cruises for two summers between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, carried far fewer passengers than expected and cost Nova Scotia taxpayers $41 million (Canadian) in subsidies. Nova Star's owner, Singapore Technologies Marine, canceled its lease agreement with Nova Star Cruses and is looking for a new operator and new route for the ship.
