Kirby sues over damage caused in Texas collision

(HOUSTON) — Kirby Inland Marine LP has filed a lawsuit against the owner and operator of the bulk carrier Summer Wind, citing negligence in the March 22 collision with a Kirby fuel barge that caused a 168,000-gallon oil spill, the Southeast Texas Record reported. The suit alleges that as a result of the collision, Kirby has incurred losses, damages and expenses exceeding $10 million. Kirby is seeking a warrant of seizure and the sale of Summer Wind to pay damages, interest, attorney’s fees and court costs.
