Judge upholds 'gross negligence' ruling against BP in Gulf oil spill

(NEW ORLEANS) — A U.S. judge on Thursday upheld his earlier finding that BP PLC was "grossly negligent" in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, Reuters reported. The decision by U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier means the company could still face nearly $18 billion in penalties. The explosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig killed 11 people and led to the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.
