Irving cuts steel for first Arctic offshore patrol ship

(DARTMOUTH, Nova Scotia) — Irving Shipbuilding cut the first piece of steel Thursday for the first of six Arctic offshore patrol ships for the Canadian navy, The Chronicle Herald reported. Irving has the design and build contracts for the six ships, worth $9.3 million and $2.3 billion, respectively. Irving also will be the primary contractor for 15 Canadian surface combat ships that have not yet been designed.
