Icebreaker, anti-sealing activist ship collide in Gulf of St. Lawrence

(HALIFAX, Nova Scotia) — A Canadian Coast Guard icebreaker and a ship owned by a conservation activist group collided in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, the Associated Press reported. A fisheries official said the 321-foot icebreaker Des Groseilliers was grazed by the 177-foot Farley Mowat after the activist ship ignored an order to stay away from an icy area. The anti-sealing society that operates the Mowat said the Coast Guard ship intentionally rammed their vessel.
