(PORT COLBORNE, Ontario) — Ice blown in from Lake Erie trapped a bulk carrier in the Welland Canal for nearly five hours Wednesday, the Fort Erie Times reported. Andrew Bogora, a spokesman for the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp., said the 653-foot Federal Nakagawa became pinched by ice near Bridge 19 in Port Colborne, stopping its progress. Bogora said the ship managed to "basically wiggle itself free" while the tugboat Seahound pushed ice out of the way.
