Hurricane forces evacuation of hundreds of Gulf oil platforms

(NEW YORK) — Workers have been evacuated from 223 Gulf of Mexico oil platforms in preparation for Hurricane Gustav, CNN reported. That represents 77 percent of the region’s production that will be shut in until the powerful storm clears the region. Royal Dutch Shell and BP have announced a total shutdown of production in the Gulf.
