Houston Ship Channel collision could have been 'major environmental incident'

(HOUSTON) — The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a collision between a cargo ship and bunker barge that had the potential to be a "major environmental incident," the Houston Chronicle reported. Lt. Cmdr. Zeita Merchant credited the quick response of Marine Safety Unit Texas City for averting a disaster in the Houston Ship Channel. The collision involved the 394-foot Genius Star VII and a Kirby Inland Marine barge.
