Gunderson to open trade skills training center in Portland

(PORTLAND, Ore.) — Gunderson Marine this spring will open its new training center, an initiative aimed at addressing the demand for skilled trades in the local economy.

The training center will serve as a central hub for trades skills development, offering training in basic metals fitting, industrial safety practices, and various welding techniques.

The training center will equip participants with skills for meaningful and sustainable careers. After the completion of the paid training program, Gunderson evaluates graduates, offering full-time, living-wage jobs as welders and shipbuilders. The shipyard, based in Portland, employs many program graduates and encourages professional development for its workforce.

“The training center is about more than skills; it’s about shaping futures and building careers,” said Joe Corvelli, chief operating officer of Gunderson Marine. “I urge anyone with an interest in welding or shipbuilding to apply for the program.”

Community members, students and trade enthusiasts are encouraged to fill out an online survey on Gunderson Marine’s website. For facility details, training program benefits and scholarship information, click here.
