Fire aboard drifting tugboat threatens Tappan Zee Bridge piling

(WEST NYACK, N.Y.) — A tugboat towing barges caught on fire in the Hudson River, and the drifting vessel posed a threat to the Tappan Zee Bridge, the Journal News newspaper reported. A fire chief said the quick response by the Coast Guard and emergency crews to the burning tug averted a “big disaster.” Another tug from Yonkers arrived just in time to prevent the ablaze vessel from threatening a bridge piling.
