Feds widen probe of Jones Act coastal freight price-fixing

(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — The U.S. Justice Department said it is investigating several coastal-freight carriers in a Jones Act price-fixing probe, the Charlotte Observer newspaper reported. Media report said the Horizon, Crowley Maritime, Sea Star and Matteson lines are part of the probe or expect to receive subpoenas. Horizon said the federal investigators are focusing on the Puerto Rico trade.
