Federal judge overturns U.S. deepwater drilling moratorium

(NEW ORLEANS) — A federal judge has overturned the Obama Administration’s moratorium on offshore drilling, Bloomberg News reported. The court found that the six-month suspension on deepwater drilling that followed the Deepwater Horizon disaster implies that the entire deepwater industry is unsafe, an idea that the government has failed to establish. An Obama spokesman said the government will appeal the judge’s decision. The case is Hornbeck Offshore Services v. Salazar.
