Fall River LNG proponents lose another round with Coast Guard

(FALL RIVER, Mass.) — The commander of the Coast Guard’s First District has ruled that bay transits to the proposed Weaver’s Cove liquified natural gas facility would be unsafe, the Herald News newspaper reported. The decision upholds an earlier Coast Guard assessment that there are too many navigational hazards in Narragansett and Hope bays to allow even small LNG tankers to use the waterways safely. Weaver’s Cove has recently considered using an offshore hookup so that ships may avoid the Brightman Street Bridge.
