(NORFOLK, Va.) — Twenty-one former employees are suing Lyon Shipyard, alleging that it maintained a hostile and racist work environment, The Virginian-Pilot reported. The plaintiffs claim that white shipyard employees freely used racial slurs while addressing the 19 black and two Hispanic workers, and that the black and Hispanic employees were given dirtier and more dangerous work than white employees. In a prepared statement Friday, the company said it had investigated the allegations and "determined conclusively that they are without merit."
