(WATERFORD, N.Y.) — An ex-employee of the agency that operates an historic ship on the Erie Canal has been accused of trying to sink the vessel, the Utica Daily News reported. The Day Peckinpaugh was discovered at the canal locks vandalized, with its valves open. Incoming water caused about $10,000 in damage but the vessel didn’t sink, and a private tugboat was hired to help stabilize it while workers pumped it out.
