Elmer Morley, founder of Maritime Professional Training, dies at 85

(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.) — Elmer Morley, a chief engineering instructor and founder of Maritime Professional Training (MPT), based here, died Aug. 17 from pancreatic cancer. He was 85.

MPT is one of the largest privately held maritime training facilities in the United States and trains more than 10,000 students annually. Morley founded the school in 1983.

Morley is survived by his wife Beverly and three children, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A public service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Rio Vista Community Church, 880 S. Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale.
