Egan Marine indicted for negligence in 2005 barge explosion

(CHICAGO) — Egan Marine Corp. and one of its tugboat captains were indicted on federal negligence charges in connection with a fatal barge explosion in 2005, the Chicago Tribune reported. While the vessel Lisa E was towing it, the barge blew up, possibly because a blowtorch was being used to warm a cargo pump. A deckhand was killed.
