(PANAMA CITY, Fla.) — Eastern Shipbuilding Group delivered the escort z-drive tugboat Capt. Jim McAllister to McAllister Towing on Aug. 16. Jensen Maritime Consultants of Seattle, Wash., designed the 100-by-40-foot vessel to full ABS Class Maltese Cross standards. The vessel has been issued its U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter M certificate of inspection (COI).
This is Eastern’s second construction of a new Subchapter M qualified tugboat, with a COI under the new regulatory regime issued at delivery. Coast Guard Station Panama City conducted all inspections in Panama City, Fla. The American Bureau of Shipping served as the third-party organization certifying the vessel’s towing safety management system.
McAllister Towing’s new construction delivery team worked closely with Eastern’s delivery supervisors during the Subchapter M COI inspection. Capt. Jim McAllister’s vessel crew participated with the sea trials and performed the required vessel safety drills.
The tug features the following characteristics:

Hawser winch: Markey Machinery Series DEPCF-52-75 single-drum hawser winch, bow mounted
