(MAMARONECK, N.Y.) — Derecktor Shipyards has announced the construction of a hybrid catamaran for Harbor Harvest, the third in the Derecktor hybrid series. Like its sister vessels, the 65-foot hybrid will be extremely fuel efficient, running off the BAE HybriDrive system.

“This hybrid project takes us to a new level of construction as it the first purposely-built commercial cargo vessel of its type," said Bob Kunkel, managing partner of Harbor Harvest. "Harbor Harvest has been designated a Federal Marine Highway project in Long Island Sound, a project that not only looks to deliver fresh, organic and sustainable farm and food products to the public, but also leads agriculture into emissions free and environmentally responsible transportation."

“We are excited at the opportunity to bring shipping into the modern age with a responsible, environmentally friendly platform,” said Micah Tucker, general manager of the New York yard.

This is the third Derecktor-built hybrid that will operate on the Long Island Sound, following Spirit of the Sound for the Maritime Aquarium of Norwalk in Norwalk, Conn., and CUNY I for the City University of New York’s Brooklyn College.
