(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) — A deck hand's left arm was severed as he tried to secure his tugboat to a barge near the Statue of Liberty on Thursday night, DNA Info reported. The mariner was securing a line on the 145-foot Mister T when the rope cinched his arm just below the elbow and severed it at 11:11 p.m., the New York Police Department said. An officer with the NYPD's harbor unit responded and tied a tourniquet just below the man's left shoulder to stop the bleeding. The deck hand, whose name wasn't immediately released, was listed in stable condition.
