Cummings issues statement on National Security Cutter

The following is a press release issued by U.S. Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, D-Md.:

(WASHINGTON) — Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, released the following statement welcoming the U.S. Coast Guard’s new National Security Cutter to Baltimore:
“It is with great honor that I welcome the CGC BERTHOLF, the first new Coast Guard National Security Cutter, to Baltimore today. This vessel will serve as a tremendous asset to the men and women of the Coast Guard as well as a symbol of the countless contributions the Coast Guard has made to the safety and security of our nation.

“During my time chairing the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee, I have watched the Coast Guard continue to raise its bar of excellence—reaching milestones such as one million lives saved and record amounts of cocaine interdicted. I have no doubt that this exceptional ship will further enable this great Service to continue shining out at sea.

“I have the utmost faith in the leadership of Admiral Allen and applaud the many steps he has taken to strengthen all aspects of the Coast Guard’s management and operations—including its acquisitions functions. I am confident that the Coast Guard will continue working relentlessly to ensure that the BERTHOLF meets all contractual obligations and the standards of quality and reliability that the American taxpayers deserve.”
