Cruise ship burns diesel in Vancouver because it can't reach dock hookup

(VANCOUVER, British Columbia) — The cruise ship Carnival Miracle has been forced to burn diesel while in port, adding to pollution there, because the ship can't reach an electrical hookup, The Vancouver Sun reported. A spokeswoman for Carnival Cruise Lines said the ship has shore power capability and routinely connects to the grid in Seattle and Long Beach, Calif. The problem is that Carnival Miracle must connect to power from the starboard side, but in Vancouver it is assigned a portside connection.
