Cruise industry goes on offensive to thwart stricter discharge rules

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — The state’s cruise industry is aggressively lobbying for changes to new rules that would place stricter limits on the discharge of metals in cruise-ship waste, the Anchorage Daily News reported. The campaign includes legislative tours of vessels’ sewage treatment facilities. The cruise lines argue that the technology necessary to meet the metal limits doesn’t exist yet.
