Cruise industry, Alaska oppose new Emission Control Area

(JUNEAU, Alaska) — A cruise industry association and the state of Alaska oppose the new Emissions Control Area that is scheduled to go into effect Aug. 1, the Juneau Empire newspaper reported. The state of Alaska has sued the Environmental Protection Agency in an effort to prevent enforcement of the emissions regulations, which derive from a treaty with Canada. An Alaska Cruise Association official says the new rules could cost the industry millions of dollars per ship.
