(LECLAIRE, Iowa) — Cleanup and salvage crews are racing cold weather to raise a towboat that sank last week in the Mississippi River after hitting an unidentified object, the Quad-City Times reported. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said the 144-foot Stephen L. Colby sustained a 12-by-30-inch gash that caused the vessel to sink rapidly. Representatives of Marquette Transportation Co., the boat's owner, said it was in the middle of the main channel when the incident occurred.
