Crewmember falls overboard from bulk carrier near Alaska

The following is the text of a press release issued by the U.S. Coast Guard:
 
(KODIAK, Alaska) — The Coast Guard is searching the North Pacific for a crewmember from a 751-foot bulk carrier, Yasa Fortune, reported to have fallen overboard approximately 775 miles southwest of Kodiak Tuesday.
 
The Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders received the report at approximately 2:15 a.m. and issued an urgent marine information broadcast requesting the assistance of any vessels in the area.
 
A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew launched from Air Station Kodiak at 3:55 a.m. Once on scene, the Hercules aircrew joined the crew of the Smarty, a 626-foot bulk carrier, and the Yasa Fortune in the search.
Weather conditions at the time of the incident were calm winds and seas with one mile of visibility and 43 degree water temperature.
The Yasa Fortune is a Marshall-Island flagged vessel and the Smarty is a Bahamanian-flagged vessel.
